Worlds longest poem

Mahābhārata
Though the definition of a long poem is vague and broad, the genre includes some of the most important poetry ever written. With more than 220000 (100000 shloka or couplets) verses and about 1.8 million words in total, the Mahābhārata is the longest epic poem in the world.

Worlds longest poem in English

The longest single-author poem in English is reputed to be My Blah Story by US writer Nigel Tomm, which stretches to 23,161 lines. The early English epic poem Beowulf comes to just over 3,000 lines, while Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner runs to 625 lines. Aug 21, 2009
