Over the past few years, I have been fortunate enough to travel for tennis tournaments, for family events or for holidays overseas. On each occasion, before leaving for the destination, I have researched and created a bucket list of things I would like to do, see or eat while I am there.
When I am researching activities to add to my bucket list, I try to look for activities that are unusual and different. Definitely not your typical touristy type activities. Eg. Eating scorpions and The Hanging Temple of Hengshan. However, there is always some normal tourist activities that make it onto the bucket list. For example The Great Wall of China and the seeing the pandas.
I find that having a variety of different objectives to visit on the bucket list allows me a greater opportunity to explore and see the country that I am visiting. As for the food that is on the bucket list, I find that the food of a country really allows a person to see how the country has been influenced by other cultures. Food is also a great way to bring people together. If you ever wish to observe this and feel the bringing the together of people, you don’t need to look any further than a Singapore Hawker Centre. They are an experience you have to have when visiting Singapore.
So my bucket lists will always contain must-try foods. Plus any opportunity to try something different and unique always provides me with a great story to tell in the future. A classic example of this is the durian ice cream in Singapore or the dugong in North Queensland.
Another benefit and helpful reason to create a bucket list are that they can provide entertainment when you are trying to tick off as many goals as you can and it can help when trying to plan your day by grouping 2 or 3 bucket items from the list together.
However, don’t worry too much if you are unable to tick off the items on the bucket list because it provides you with just another reason why you have to return back to that country in order to complete your bucket list.
I hope you enjoyed the read and keep on following me on my adventures and don’t forget to check out my The China Bucket List page.
